Father arrested after son found shot in the head in Henagar

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office: At approximately 9:30 pm on September 5th the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a domestic dispute between father and son with shots fired at a residence on County Road 739 in Henagar. When Investigators, Deputies, Ider Police and Alabama State Troopers arrived on the scene, they found a 24 year old male that appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head, the male was transported by DeKalb Ambulance Service to Erlanger Hospital where he underwent surgery and his condition is unknown at this time.

Jacksonville State Forensics Science Investigator Mark Hopwood was called to help process the scene.

The father, Scott K. Slaton, 53 of Henagar was arrested on the scene for Obstructing Government Operations and resisting arrest.  

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said, “This is an unfortunate incident that occurred and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family. This is still an ongoing investigation and as we continue to compile information and evidence it will be possible that more charges will be added, if not we will send this case to Grand Jury for further review.”
