For the fourth year, the Hannah White Arnett Chapter of the National Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution and DeKalb County VFW Post 3128 sponsored Wreaths Across America Day locally.
The groups gathered with veterans, auxiliary unit member, Boy Scouts, and guests Saturday, Dec. 14, to place ceremonial wreaths at the flags in Patriots Memorial Park in Fort Payne.
Wreaths were placed at the flags in Patriots Memorial Park representing those who served in the Army, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, Navy, US Coast Guard, Fire Department and Police Department as well as those who are POW/MIA.
The Hannah White Arnett Chapter and VFW Post 3128 have participated in the national program to bring awareness to the yearlong mission of Wreaths Across America which is to “Remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.”
This year, there were more than 4,500 participating locations on National Wreaths Across America Day, with more than three million volunteers coming together to honor those who have served.
Participating in the program were VFW Post 3128, NSDAR members, Fort Payne Mayor Brian Baine, the Fort Payne Fire and Police Departments, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 89, Fort Payne, and Unit 215, Mentone, member of the Northeast Alabama Marine Corps League, and Mentone Scout Troop 178.
