Friday, July 25 join DeSoto State Park staff on a meandering hike along the Azalea Cascade Interpretive Trail in DeSoto State Park. Stop at points along the trail to hear the tale of a little raccoon named Hernando. “Hernando’s Adventure” is a book for children in which the ways of the woods are explained so that kids from pre-school to elementary school can understand them.
The hike is approximately one-seventh of a mile in length on slightly rocky terrain. Trail is not suitable for strollers. Hikers are encouraged to bring a snack and drink.
The hike begins at 4 p.m. Meet at DeSoto’s Country Store & Information Center on Co. Rd. 89 Fee: $2 per person and open to all ages.

On Friday, July 25 at 8 p.m. DeSoto State Park will offer the Campfire Talk: Habitat Gardening for Wildlife 101. The outdoor campfire talk is part of a series of educational and entertaining programs.
Campfire programs are held many Friday and Saturday evenings from June through October. Talks are for all ages, and open to everyone.
Habitat Gardening for Wildlife 101 teaches about becoming a steward of biodiversity, creating a haven for wildlife and a sanctuary for oneself.
A wildlife-friendly habitat garden replaces manicured lawns with native plants that attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife seeking food and shelter. Join guest naturalist Michelle Reynolds to discover proven ways to create an inviting home environment that attracts and protects birds, butterflies, insects, and many other species.
Presentation will be held at the Campfire Ring in the Improved Campground (In case of inclement weather relocated to the CCC Pavilion in picnic area). Campground gates will open 30 minutes before program. The presentation is free and open to everyone, no pre-registration required.
