VFW Post 6073 All American Commanders honors legacy of loyalty, service and advocacy

Story By Gayla Sue Mendez

Since its founding in 1946, Fallen Comrades VFW Post 6073 in Jackson County has stood as a beacon of dedication, support, and service. Guided by strong leadership, the post has consistently embodied the core values of the Veterans of Foreign Wars — loyalty, service, and advocacy.

The All-American Program recognizes VFW posts that excel in leadership, membership growth, and veteran support. To qualify, a post must meet membership goals and actively participate in community programs such as Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, and National Veterans & Military Support Service — demonstrating a steadfast commitment to service, patriotism, and veteran advocacy. Earning All-American status highlights the excellence of its leaders and the collective dedication of its members.

Under Current Commander Edward Clayson’s leadership, the post once again achieved All-American status, continuing its proud tradition of loyalty, service, and advocacy. This milestone reaffirms the strength and dedication required to lead through challenging times while inspiring members to actively contribute to their mission.

FW Post 6073 and Auxiliary is more than an organization, it is a hub of veteran and family-oriented service, offering veterans and their family’s opportunities to work together. This inclusive approach fosters unity while strengthening community bonds. From youth programs to veteran support services, Post 6073 remains a vital resource for Scottsboro and Greater Jackson County, a commitment upheld for over 75 years by steadfastly remaining a 100% community involvement-oriented post. Under the leadership of our committed commanders, VFW Post 6073 remains SOLID.

At the heart of Post 6073 is loyalty—a deep commitment to duty, service, and integrity. This guiding principle drives the VFW’s mission, inspiring members to make a lasting impact. Loyalty is more than a value; it is a way of life for veterans, carried forward from military service into meaningful community action. As comrades, in both good times and bad, members of Fallen Comrades VFW Post 6073 remain strong. We hold firmly the belief that we find our strength through unity and loyalty, and our direction through service and advocacy.

This article is written in memory of Past All-American Post Commander Aubrey McClure (1995–1996), whose dedicated service to VFW Post 6073 and Jackson County continues to inspire the Spirit of Service at VFW Post 6073.
