Tiffany Watson elected new president of CASA

Tiffany Watson has always had a passion for caretaking. For a long time, she lived in Florida, taking care of her grandfather since 2017 after he was diagnosed with dementia. One day, he expressed that he wanted to go back home and live in Alabama. Watson and her husband dropped their careers in Florida and moved out to Hollywood.

“It’s just second nature, honestly. I’ve always been a nurturer,” Watson said.

Though she hadn’t lived in the area and was an ‘outsider’, Watson was surprised by the open arms welcoming her into the community, which she now looks to serve as the new President of Aging at Home Support, mostly known as CASA.

“When I got voted president of CASA, it’s a very humbling experience for the senior community to just welcome me with open arms because nobody really knows me, I’m not from here. This is a small community,” Watson said.

For her time, she’s mostly looking to just spread the word of what all CASA has to support the elderly community. A good start with that is to simple spread the word that they’re still around and are ready to help those that want it, whether it be medical equipment, ramps or nutrition drinks.

“A lot of people don’t know about this so my job is to advocate for casa to let the senior community know that we’re still here and we’re still able to help out with needs. Even visits to the doctors, we’re able to reach out to the transportation coordinator at Highlands Medical Center. They offer transportation. Jackson County also has transportation. We’re working through both of them just to make sure that people can get to their doctor’s appointments,” Watson said. “Right now, it’s just important that we want to get word out to the community that we’re here and want to help. We have the supplies it’s just nobody knows that we still exist.”

Along with that, they’re hoping to update their long inactive Facebook page to start spreading the word on social media.

While they do have supplies, they do take donations, which can be dropped off at the Aging at Home Support building at 450 S Broad Street, Scottsboro, AL 35768. Anyone looking to donate or help out in other ways can contact CASA at (256)259-3736 or email casaofjacksoncounty@gmail.com.
