SPECIAL TO THE REPORTER

The Mountain Valley Singers will present their spring concert “Let’s Take a Sentimental Journey” on Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church Albertville.

The program features classic songs from the 1930s and 1940s.

This is the group’s 51st season, and it is the oldest continually performing community chorus in the state.

Director Katherine Ables said she selected songs that were in the top 100 songs of those eras.

“We got the best,” Ables said.

She said the songs in the program were written by a number of well-known composers including Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and others.

Songs on the program include “Stardust,” “Lazy River,” “Heart and Soul,” “Georgia on My Mind,” “In the Cool, Cool, Cool, of the Evening,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “In the Still of the Night,” “The Nearness of You,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got that Swing), “Hard Hearted Hannah,” “Shoo-Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy,” “Sentimental Journey,” and “I Only Have Eyes for You.”

Admission is free.
