DEKALB COUNTY, Ala.-- As the days get longer and temperatures get warmer, people begin to start spring cleaning around their homes.
Each year, the DeKalb County Commission sponsors a “Spring Cleaning” event in hopes of decreasing litter in DeKalb County.
According to Roger Byrd with DeKalb County Solid Waste Management, the 2022 Clean-Up Campaign for DeKalb County residents will begin on Wednesday, April 13, at 8 a.m.
The Republic Services Sand Valley Landfill will have dumpsters open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following weeks: April 13- 16, April 20-23, and April 27-30. The Sand Valley Landfill is providing this service to DeKalb County at no cost.
Items that are considered hazardous waste will not be accepted at the landfill. These items include batteries, tires, or cans of liquid paint.
Rainsville Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt stated at the last meeting of the Rainsville City Council that dumpsters would be available for residents beginning May 2- May 28. Times will be Monday through Friday from 7 am-6 pm and on Saturday from 10 am-6 pm, behind the City Workshop and behind the Rainsville City Hall.
The City of Fort Payne is considering hosting a clean-up drive, but the dates are not determined at this time.
