Satterfield Chosen Most Outstanding Faculty Member at NACC

Brent Satterfield, Instructor of Criminal Justice at Northeast Alabama Community College, has been chosen as the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Most Outstanding Faculty Member for 2014-2015. The announcement was made recently by the Founders’ Chair Committee at a luncheon at the college.

Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC, welcomed guests to the luncheon honoring Satterfield. “This is a very special occasion for us,” he said. “Teaching is what we are all about here at Northeast. We have an outstanding faculty and many of those previously chosen are here today to honor Mr. Brent Satterfield. The committee has a challenge each year in selecting among those nominated. Lora Mae, Joyce, Pat and Kathy have done well adding Mr. Satterfield to the ranks of those already honored.”

Lora Mae Davis, Chair of the Founders’ Chair Committee made the announcement. She said, “Each year, the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Award goes to an outstanding faculty member, deserving special recognition. This award carries a stipend. The recipient is honored at graduation and has their name placed on a plaque displayed in a prominent place at the College.

“When visiting Northeast, I feel so proud and excited to know how much you have grown,” said Davis. “This growth is due to the leadership and faculty, like you, who continue to make outstanding contributions by your teaching, caring and personal skills. You have greatly contributed to the success of this college and many, many students for their successful careers, as they find their place in our society.”

Davis added, “We would like to thank Dr. David Campbell, his assistant Pat Wildman, Dr. Joe Burke, and his assistant Angie Stewart for their continued help and support in this program. A special thanks to the SGA president, Edy Aguilar for distributing and collecting the nomination forms. In addition, thanks to Debra Barrentine for keeping the surrounding communities informed on the activities and the promotion of the College.”

In conclusion, Davis stated, “In celebrating with your 50 year anniversary, it is my pleasure to present the recipient of the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Award for outstanding contributions to this college and community for the year 2014-2015, Mr. Brent Satterfield.”

Satterfield becomes the 31st recipient of the award. He said, “I am truly honored to have been selected for this recognition. I work with some of the best instructors a person can associate themselves with in higher education. I want to thank those that made the nomination and the committee for selecting me for this honor. Northeast is an outstanding place to work and I’m blessed to be a part of it. I would like to dedicate this award in memory of my parents, Chester and Ozell Satterfield. They both worked extremely hard so that I could obtain my education. My dad’s dream was to be an educator but due to his service in WWII and starting a family he never got the chance to live his dream. I know they would be proud of me and my accomplishments today.”

Satterfield has been at Northeast since 2004. He holds B.S. and M.P.A. degrees from Jacksonville State University. He is a Criminal Justice Instructor and advisor, as well as the sponsor of Nu Alpha Chi Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association. He resides and owns a poultry and cattle farm in Geraldine, Alabama.

Members of the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Committee include Lora Mae Davis, Chair, Joyce Kennamer, Pat Freeman, and Kathy Cook. Campbell stated “This award lets us recognize those instructors that do such a great job of teaching and supporting our students. We thank the committee for their work.” Campbell also acknowledged Heather Rice, Development Director, for assisting the committee. The award is funded through the college’s Foundation.
