The municipal runoff elections are set for this Tuesday and include the cities of Fort Payne and Fyffe. Runoff elections typically result in low voter turnout, which can significantly impact the outcome of the election.
In the city of Fort Payne, Scotty Vaughn and Mike Grant will be seeking the final spot on the city council.
“I’m excited. We have been doing everything we can for the last four weeks to reach as many people as possible to remind them to go vote on Tuesday.” Said Vaughn. “We have a beautiful city, I'm fortunate to have been born and raised here, and I want to see it be the best it can be. I’ve enjoyed the campaign. It’s been gratifying. I’ve met a lot of new people along the way.”
Mike Grant had this to say about the upcoming runoff election.
“This is my first time running for political office. We have met a lot of people, it has been fun, but it’s also been trying at times. The runoff is going to come down to the core group of voters who go to the polls each election and the voters that we have made interested in the election,” said Grant. “I feel good about the election, and I want to tell people to make sure they come out to vote for the candidate of their choice.”
The town of Fyffe will have two town council seats decided on Tuesday. Heath Galloway and James Spears will face off for Council Place 1, and Matt Umphrey and Kaylee Anderson face off for Council Place 2. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
