FYFFE, Ala. — On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, DeKalb County lost a friend, a family doctor, and a good Christian man.

Dr. Ronnie Lewis was one of seven children. He worked and put himself through medical school. Immediately after graduating, he opened his practice in Fyffe. For five years, he served as a shoulder to cry on and the doctor that many counted on. He moved on to accept a position at Talladega Federal Prison, where he worked for five years, before returning back to DeKalb County for a position at Rapid Care in Fort Payne. He held this job for nineteen years.

Lewis served for many years as a church pianist and Choir Director for Lee’s Chapel Church in Henagar. He loved convention-style singing and served as the President of the Alabama School of Gospel Music at Snead.

Among his many accolades across a long career, Dr. Lewis was named as the Vice President of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama (MASA). Lewis was very humble and didn’t like much recognition, but to many across the county, he was more than a doctor, he was a friend.

Today, we remember the man who could sing like an angel and now sings among them himself. We believe he’s still “playing the keys off a piano.” We will miss Dr. Ronnie Lewis and thank him for his many years as a physician, musician, and friend. To know him was to love him.
