In a special called meeting last week, the Rainsville City Council voted to purchase a used John Deere side cutter from the State of Alabama for $77,000.
Lingerfelt said city personnel had checked out the piece of equipment and it looks like “a really good machine,” with only 1,400 hours of use.
Lingerfelt said for the last five or six years he’s talked about about getting turn signals at Plainview schools. He said he called and got a response on June 18. The Alabama Department of Transportation has agreed to place turn signals at Alabama Highway 35 and Marshall Street, at a cost of $36,000 for the city, to be paid when the work is complete. With the council’s approval, the mayor said he could send a letter and ALDOT would place the order the next day.
Council members were on board with the idea, sharing some of the woes they’ve experience trying to turn there. Lingerfelt said he’d sat through four cycles of the traffic light, waiting to turn. The measure was approved.
Lingerfelt said he’d been asked about Rainsville Chamber of Commerce hosted election forum. He said initially there didn’t seem to be much interest, but he and other councilmembers expressed interest now, for a forum scheduled for July 31 at the Tome Bevill Enrichment Center.
