The Rainsville City Council voted last week to accept a paving bid from Wiregrass Construction for work on several city streets and roads.
The council approved Wiregrass Construction’s bid for $1,266,707.95 for paving work on Brown’s Chapel Road; Everett Road; Maple Avenue (to be widened); Scott Avenue (to be widened),; George Wallace from Parker (behind 50 Taters); Fortner Road across Chavies Bridge to behind the old Williams building; Chavies Road from the bridge back up to Alabama Highway 35 toward the school; and Carver Avenue from George Wallace down to Brown’s Chapel.
The council also approved Section Water Board installing a water line for the training center, at a cost of $8,546, and the purchase of metal for the center, for $2,300.
Council members voted to purchase a hydraulic machine that will allow employees to make connectors for hoses rather than having to purchase them. The machine, from Advanced Maintenance Supply, costs $4,400.
In other action the council voted to:
Accept Joyce Baker’s resignation from the Library Board.
Appoint Sheila Hammonds to the Library Board.
Pay for repairs on a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe for the police department, totaling $3,236.50.
Pay for repairs on a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe for the fire department, totaling $3,172.78
Accept the resignation of Assistant Police Chief Matt Crum, leaving the department for a job opportunity for his wife, that will require relocation.
Approve a $500 sponsorship for cleanup work such as pressure washing at Plainview school for the start of the school year.
