Special to the Reporter

Jill McBrayer Oakley announced she will seek re-election for Albertville City Council Place 2.

For over a decade, Oakley has served our community on the Albertville City Council. As a lifelong resident, she has been deeply committed to ensure Albertville remains a vibrant, thriving, and welcoming place for all of us to call home.

Oakley serves as the President of the Albertville Parks and Recreation Foundation, member of the Capital Planning Committee for Albertville City Schools, Board of Directors for Marshall County RSVP and the Board of Directors for Marshall County Tourism & Sports. She is a 2015 graduate of Marshall County Leadership Challenge and has been involved with Albertville City Schools Foundation, and Albertville High School Band and Show Choir booster and officer.

A graduate of Samford University with a Master’s of Science in Biology and Chemistry, she worked as an instructor at Snead State Community College, and served as the Quality Control Lab Manager for the former Gold Kist Poultry.

Her focus has always been on enhancing the quality of life for every resident. She believes in practical solutions and collaborative efforts to build a stronger Albertville, together.

Priorities for Albertville:

*  Community Enrichment: Championing initiatives like the Albertville Museum, Public Library, Senior Center, and the Keep Albertville Beautiful program to foster a strong ensemble of community and pride. Continued efforts in ordinance enforcements to improve and maintain property values in our city. Additional road paving and improvements with sidewalks and new street signage and stop signs.

*  Education: Supporting our Albertville City Schools and the Capital Planning Committee to ensure our children have the best possible learning environments. Since 2011 the total sales tax from the city and county to Albertville City Schools has increased 280%, and since 2020 the increase is 190%.

*  Parks & Recreation: Continuing to invest in our parks and recreational facilities including the Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater, to provide quality of life for all families to connect and stay active in our community. City sales tax has increased 53% since the opening of Sand Mountain Park in 2020. Currently working with city administration and architects on master planning for our Miracle League and other Park amenities needed to meet the needs of our community.

*  Fiscal Responsibility: Ensuring sound financial management and wise use of taxpayer dollars for the benefit of all citizens. Since 2012 the City Employee pay has increased 75%. Work to maintain a strong commitment to workforce and recruitment efforts through employee benefits, information technology, and operational infrastructure. Revitalization in our downtown development in the heart of Albertville. Continued economic growth and development in the city with major retail developments. Since 2012 city sales tax has increased 156%. 60% of all roads have been paved since 2015. Continued growth at Albertville Regional Airport. The city currently has more than 6 months of general fund expenses in reserves to withstand any decline in sales tax for multiple years.

* Responsive Leadership: Remaining accessible and responsive to your concerns and ideas, always striving to represent your voice on the Council while remaining active within the community.

As a Certified Municipal Public Official, Oakley has achieved the Emeritus status, the highest professional certification that local government officials can earn in the state. She represents Albertville on statewide committees for the Alabama League of Municipalities, including Committee of Economic Development (CED) and Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee (EENR).

Jill has been married for 39 years to Rodger Oakley, pharmacist at Marshall Medical Center South. They have two adult children: Ryan, who holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy, and Lauren, who holds an MS as a Registered Dietician specializing in eating disorders. They are active members at Albertville First Baptist Church.

Oakley has demonstrated her proven leadership and commitment to the community since 2012 on Albertville City Council.

“As a Certified Municipal Public Official Emeritus and a representative of statewide committees for the Alabama League of Municipalities, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of effective leadership. God has given me an amazing opportunity to give back in serving my community and I will always be dedicated to advocating for Albertville at all levels of government.”
