Northeast Alabama Community College continues its national award winning streak. The college was notified recently that it is the recipient of nine awards, four of which were top Gold Awards, in the Thirtieth Annual Educational Advertising Awards competition by the National Higher Education Marketing Report (HEMR).
The Aurora literary magazine Art and Literature 2014 received the Gold Award in the category of Publication/Internal Group 2: School with 2,000-4,999 students. “What an honor to have all our hard work recognized at a national level,” said Joan Reeves, Chair of the English and Fine Arts Division. “We are so proud to be recognized by a national organization which places us in competition with universities as well as other community colleges. The literary magazine at NACC is so much more than just a forum for our students, for it also serves as a recruiting tool.” The literary magazine is published annually by the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta and the English and Fine Arts Department of NACC. “Through the writing competition we sponsor for area middle and high schools, we are able to reach out to potential students and offer those ‘budding’ authors a chance to see their work in print,” continued Reeves. “The Aurora has truly been a labor of love and continues to reflect the amazing work being done by Alabama community colleges.”
The 2014-2015 NACC Catalog/Student Handbook was a Gold Award winner in the category of Catalog, Group 2: School with 2,000-4,999 students. “We are honored and pleased to be awarded in this category with the competition being so tough,” said Debra Barrentine, Director of Promotions and Marketing.

We are so thrilled to see that others recognize all of that work. What an honor it is to have received this award,” said Andrea Okwu, Coordinator of High School Relations and Recruiting.

HEMR began its efforts to recognize educational marketing and advertising 31 years ago. The Educational Advertising Awards is the largest educational advertising awards competition in the country. This year, over 2,000 entries were received from over 1,000 colleges, universities, and secondary schools from all fifty states and several foreign countries. Judges for the awards consisted of a national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of HEMR.
A complete listing of winners in all categories can be found at thehttp://hmrpublicationsgroup.com website. Over the years, Northeast has been a consistent recipient of these national awards.
