NACC Identified as "Better for Veterans" Institution

By Staff Reports

POWELL, Ala. — Veterans interested in enrolling in college this fall should explore the opportunities at Northeast Alabama Community College.  NACC is designated a Military Friendly® College and is one of the “Better for Veterans” institutions identified across the country. The Military Friendly® list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools nationwide, input from student veterans, and responses to the proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly® Schools survey from participating institutions.

“We are very pleased to be designated as a Military Friendly® college,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “Military personnel have served and sacrificed for our country.  We want to honor their service by doing whatever we can for them in pursuing their education goals.”

Fall enrollment is going on now and veterans are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office and talk with Jennifer Brown or Brenda Hernandez who are the School Certifying Officials (SCOs) at NACC. Brown and Hernandez are the designated contacts for students who would like to use their VA educational benefits.

Brown said, “We are very proud of our student veterans who have been so successful.  One of our recent graduates, Josh Lingerfelt, has just secured employment as a Data Center Technician with the Google facility in Jackson County. He is one of our many success stories.”

Veterans can utilize the VA Educational Success Center in the George C. Wallace Administration Building, Room 104. “It is a designated area for our veteran students to utilize computers and printers for any of their educational needs,” said Brown.  “We also have CAC card readers available for our military students.”

NACC also has a Northeast Student Veterans Association.  This organization is open to all students and acts as an advocate for student veteran related issue.  Its purpose is to provide a fellowship of like-minded individuals and build awareness with the college and community of the challenges, experiences and related needs of the student veteran and their dependents.  NSVA students participate in fundraising events to aid local veterans and provide outreach to potential student veterans, local schools and youth organizations.  Sponsors for this group are Jennifer Brown and Brenda Hernandez in the Financial Aid Office in the George C. Wallace Administration Building.

Early registration is going on now by appointment.  Fall registration is Wednesday, August 21, 8:30 am until 5:30 pm. Classes begin on Thursday, August 22. Registration ends on Friday, August 23. Tuition is only $160 per semester hour.
