America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on Jan. 19. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Chris and Andrea Thompson about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.

Open since July 2021, Pappy’s Place serves homemade southern comfort food in a casual atmosphere. The restaurant is now in its third location, which opened at the beginning of 2023. They are a block off the main road through downtown Scottsboro, which they admit makes them a bit hard to find and they are hoping attention from their episode will change that.

Pappy’s Place has won awards from Restaurant Guru every year since opening. They serve a variety of sandwiches, burgers, wings, pizza, dinner plates and homemade desserts including homemade ice cream.

The Thompsons maintain that owning a restaurant to show their love to the community has been a long time goal.

“We originally opened because Chris loves to cook, and he loves to cook to make people happy,” Andrea says.

A popular menu item that may be featured on the episode is the Heart Attack Burger, which features house-smoked hickory barbecue, bacon, onion straws, cheese and fried pickles. The mac-and-cheese brisket burrito is also a fan favorite.

Pappy’s is also the home of the weekend-only Beyond Hot Wing Challenge; ten wings in eight minutes which clocks in at nine million Scoville units. No drinks or napkins are allowed, and a waiver must be completed prior to the challenge.

Ultimately the Thompsons want the message of their episode to be that people who come in to eat are treated like family.

“We want people to feel like they’re at home,” Chris says. “The love of food here is the main thing. There’s a lot of things wrong with restaurants today and it’s called heart. They don’t have heart no more, and we’ve still got it because we love to see people happy,”

America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Friday January 19th from 9 am to noon CST. The press is invited to attend. The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on their Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website at https://americasbestrestaurants.com/rests/alabama/pappys-place
