Northeast Alabama Community College Theatre opened its long-awaited production of the beloved Sondheim classic Into the Woods last weekend to near-sold out audiences. Fresh on the heels of the Disney adaptation of the same name, NACC continues to defy expectations with a spectacle of a set and a charming ensemble cast.
Into the Woods is a paradox. It is for children, and it is for adults. It is both very comical and very serious. It is light and dark, superficial and utterly significant, fantasy and reality, as well as happy and sad. In short, it is pure genius!
The woods! An enchanting journey awaits all those who enter! Children, adults, child-like adults, and adult-like children can all be found when you journey "Into the Woods"! This play is a delight for audiences of all ages because it charms us all with the opportunity to re-visit so many of the fairy tale characters of our youth! It is a wonder for children as their imaginations carry them into the woods on their own fantastical journeys alongside Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red, princes, wolves, witches, Jack and his journey to the land of the Giants, and more! This enchanting side of this story will have younger audience members spellbound from beginning to end!
- Mark Webb, Director of Theatre
Through a special arrangement with First National Bank, NACC presented two sold-out performances of the play's first act for the sixth grade class of Jackson, DeKalb, Fort Payne, and Scottsboro Schools free of charge.
Into the Woods re-opens Thursday, April 23 and runs through Sunday, April 26. Show times are 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
