Grand re-opening held for Boaz Farmer’s Market

Last Friday morning city leaders and community members gathered for the grand re-opening of the Boaz Farmer’s Market.

According to city historian, Wayne Hunt, the city purchased the property that previously was occupied by vacant cotton warehouses and gins.

“On this property the city built the first organized Farmer’s Market where venders could assemble and display their products for sale. Over the years many truck farmers had sold around town in parking lots or empty lots around town. Now they could all be in one location and people could buy from one or all at the same time,” Hunt said. “Today, the city has invested in this long-standing community service by expanding and improving the Boaz Farmers Market making it more accessible and customer friendly.”

Renovations to Boaz Farmer’s Market were completed in March, just in time for the busy spring season to begin.

According to Boaz Mayor David Dyar, renovations included new gutters, a new pad poured, a new fence and new landscaping.

“I’ve been to farmers markets all over north Alabama and there just aren’t many better than ours,” Mayor Dyar said. “There haven’t been any renovations done to market since it opened. So, it was long overdue. The farmer’s market is something that’s very important to Boaz.”

A complimentary lunch was served to all who attended the grand re-opening.

The Boaz Farmer’s Market is located at 108 Line Street and is open Monday – Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting.
