Have you ever thought about the fact that you are not your own? You belong to something so much bigger than yourself. You belong to God.
We put a lot of stock into thinking that our lives are ours to run and control. Each day, we take note of what we think we need to do and how we need to go about our business. We have quiet times and try to learn things about our Father or bring request before him, but rarely do we have him give us insight on how he wants our steps to be ordered that day.
Please don’t think you are the only one. Control has been the biggest struggle since day one. Satan put the question of “Is God really in control?” in the minds of Adam and Eve in the garden and you see how they responded and we have been struggling with that same question ever since.
However, the beautiful truth is that Jesus rescued us from our futile attempts to control our lives and God showed us through Jesus that he is serious about us belonging to him. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul writes, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price.”
Through Christ, we are not our own. We belong to God! He has brought us back from the land of sin, darkness, and death that we stumbled into. He paid a huge price for you and me through sending his son. He paid off our debts. As a result, we now are his. We are his children and heirs in his kingdom.
Knowing this, it should change how we operate. It is no longer about our desires. If God was so gracious to purchase us, then we should live a life of eternal gratitude to Him. Without his intervention, we would be slaves to our sins forever. Our days now should consist of walking by the Spirit that is within us and honoring the plans of God over our lives.
We should seek to take the steps that He wants us to take. If our days are filled with nothing but what we want and our plans, then we are being wasteful. We are also being disrespectful to the one that was intentional enough to purchase us back.
God wants each and everyday to be an adventure with him. He loves you enough that he paid a huge sum for you. It was his joy to purchase you and bring you into the family and put life into your heart.
Day in and day out, are you glorifying him? Are you living on purpose? Or are you just merely existing? God did not pay a huge sum for you to be in survival mode everyday. God rescued you and put his spirit within you so you could wake up each day with a desire to love and pamper him well and love others. That all God wants. He wants us to go be a light for him and glorify him.
Don’t waste days! It’s not up to you anyways, you belong to God and it’s time to do what He wants!
