The North Jackson baseball team used two big innings to notch a comeback win.
Trailing 2-0 after one inning, the Chiefs scored six runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth to post a mercy-rule shortened 14-2 victory over visiting Geraldine Saturday at Stevenson Park’s Jr. Rorex Field.
North Jackson (6-10) posted 15 hits and drew three walks in the victory.
Conner Reed went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for North Jackson while Jax Hill, Drew Davis and Diego Holt each had two hits and two RBIs while Trevor Houston had two hits, a walk and one RBI, Hagan White had one hit and two RBIs, Bodie Burnette had a double, a walk and one RBI, Logan Shoemake had one hit and one RBI and Brodie Carraway had one hit. Shoemake recorded nine strikeouts over five innings pitched to earn the win on the mound for North Jackson.
Hazel Green 14, Scottsboro 3 — At Scottsboro, Class 6A No. 10-ranked Hazel Green used a nine-run first inning to propel it to a win over the Wildcats on Saturday.
Cohen Thompson finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored for Scottsboro (9-12). Trent Wilson contributed a two-run single and JC Heikkinen had a single and an RBI sacrifice fly for the Wildcats while Jackson Nichols singled and walked and Conner Vaden singled and scored a run.
FRIDAY
Section 16-10, Columbia 4-4 — At Huntsville, the Lions swept Class 6A Columbia in a doubleheader.
Section (8-13) totaled 22 hits and scored in every inning in a five-inning mercy-rule shortened Game 1 victory. Ian McLaughlin went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Jackson Broom was 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lions while Preston Dover went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, Piercen Saint went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI and Landon Vaughn went 3-for-4. Section also got two hits from Luke Swinford and one hit and one RBI each from Jackson Stringer, Luke Broom and Devon Wu. McLaughlin struck out seven while earning the win on the mound.
In Game 2, Stringer went had a three-run home run and an RBI single while Broom, Leo Chapparo and Trevor Dover had one hit and one RBI each and Hunter Lundy had one hit. Broom had five strikeouts on the mound to ge the win.
Pisgah 17, Richard Hardy (Tenn.) 0 — At Pisgah, the Eagles scored 15 runs in the first two innings en route to a five-inning mercy-rule shortened win over Richard Hardy Memorial School of South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
Pisgah (6-9) opened up a 5-0 lead after one inning before scoring two runs in the second and one each in the third and fourth innings.
Luke Gilbert went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored, Landon Shaver was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Mason Cooley had two doubles, two walks, three runs and four RBIs for Pisgah while Ross Smith had two doubles, two walks, three runs and three RBIs and Caleb Jenkins had three hits and three runs. Jackson Smalley contributed a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored for the Eagles and Braxton Garrett had a single, two walks, two runs and one RBI while Jaxon Kirby ha an RBI single and Lane Smith had an RBI.
Pisgah pitchers Gilbert (five strikeouts in two innings), Garrett (five strikeouts in two innings) and Smalley (three strikeouts in one inning) combined to pitch a one-hitter.
North Jackson 10, Grundy County (Tenn.) 6 — At Coalmont, Tennessee, the visiting Chiefs rallied from a five-run deficit to post the win.
Trailing 5-0 after three innings, North Jackson scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning before adding three more in the fifth.
Hagan White finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Brodie Carraway was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Chiefs while Jax Hill was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Logan Shoemake was 2-for-3. North Jackson also got a double and two RBIs from Conner Reed, an RBI double from Trevor Houston, an RBI single from Drew Davis and two RBIs from Bodie Burnette, who pitched four innings and struck out two while earning the win.
Pell City 4, NSM 3 — At Oxford, Class 2A No. 5-ranked North Sand Mountain dropped its final game in the Choccolocco Park Spring Break Classic against the 6A Panthers.
NSM (18-6) jumped in front 3-0 in the top of the first inning, but Pell City scored a run in the bottom of the first and three in the second before holding NSM scoreless the rest of the way.
Mikey Poss finished 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, a run and an RBI while Luke Reed singled, walked and scored a run, Cooper Pierce singled and walked and Jaxson Stiles walked twice and scored a run.
THURSDAY
J.B. Pennington 13, Pisgah 3 — At Blountsville, the Eagles dropped a road game against Class 3A J.B. Pennington.
Pisgah took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers countered with five runs in the their half of the first before scoring one run each in the second and third innings and three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings.
Braxton Garrett went 2-for-3 with a double and Cade Stockman had an RBI single for the Eagles, who also got singles from Jackson Smalley and Ross Smith.
