DeKalb players take part in Football for Christ

Story By Heath Hambrick

The 26th annual Football for Christ Camp was held Friday at Section High School. The event was started in 1996 by DeKalb County native, Coach Sam Graham.

Graham is a former head coach at Sylvania, Albertville and Valley Head.

This year’s campers ranged from grades 3-12. During the event, campers learned football fundamentals and techniques from current college and high school coaches and former college and NFL players.

Campers also heard from the coaches and players during devotion time, telling the campers about life lessons they have learned in life.

This year’s event had 120 campers who learned  skills from the likes of UNA Defensive Line Coach Steve Carter, Tae Davis, a former Cleveland Brown and New York Giant, Brady Carson, a former Fyffe Red Devil and current Defensive Coordinator at Ouachita Baptist in Arkansas, and former Gardendale, Cullman, Locust Fork and Brewer Head Coach Matt Plunkett.

This event has been very successful under the leadership of Graham and is expected to continue to serve young athletes in the area for years to come.

Players from Ider, Sylvania, Geraldine, Fyffe, Valley Head and Plainview took part in the camp on Friday.
