Northeast Alabama Community College held its 49th annual Commencement Ceremony on May 15 at the Northeast Alabama AgriBusiness Center in Rainsville. In all, 203 Northeast graduates received associate degrees in a ceremony attended by an estimated 4,500 guests.
Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC, welcomed everyone. He noted that the evening’s graduation was particularly significant because Northeast was celebrating the college’s Fiftieth Anniversary this year. He also thanked the graduates’ friends and family members for their support and help in the students’ achievement.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Mark Heinrich, Chancellor of the Alabama Community College System. Campbell praised Chancellor Heinrich for the energy and vision he had brought to the Alabama Community College System. He stated that he had known Chancellor Heinrich in many capacities through the years and that he knew of no one better to lead the college system into the future.
In his Commencement Address, Chancellor Heinrich outlined the key elements that everyone needs to follow to lead a rewarding and fulfilling life.
NACC Student Government President Edy Aguilar also spoke at graduation, and described how much Northeast had meant to her in her educational and personal growth. She noted that Northeast faculty and staff always took the time to help her with any issue.
Brent Satterfield was awarded the Charles M. Pendley Founder’s Chair Most Outstanding Faculty Member Award for 2014-2015. Lora Mae Davis, Chair of the Founder’s Chair Committee, presented the award to Satterfield.
Dean of Student Services Sherie Grace recognized Elizabeth Byrd and William Hammonds, the All- Alabama Academic Team Members. Nicky Willmon, chair of the President’s Cup Committee, presented the President’s Cup, the top student award, to Edy Aguilar.
Music for the event was provided by the Northeast Chorus under the Direction of Dr. Kathy Adkins, Director of the NACC Chorus, and the Brass Quintet under the direction of Stacy Morris, Instructor of Instrumental Music at Northeast. Presentation of Colors was performed by the Fort Payne High School JROTC.
“We try to make our graduation ceremony a very memorable event,” stated President Campbell. “Our students, with the help of their families and friends, have worked very hard to meet all the requirements to graduate. We are proud of each one of them for what they have accomplished.”
Graduates who were awarded degrees are listed below. An additional 233 graduates who did not participate in the ceremony received degrees this spring. Many of the graduates will join the workforce or transfer on to complete baccalaureate degrees at colleges and universities.
