Rainsville, Ala.-- Plainview High School rising senior, Ephan Benjume, was recently selected to attend the 86th Alabama Annual Boys State. This selection recognizes his role as a leader and an outstanding citizen of his school and community.
Boys State is a civic organization founded in 1935 to help young men learn about democracy by experiencing it firsthand. Participants learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizens in training that centers on the structure of city, county, and state governments. Students are elected to various offices and activities including legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, and recreational activities. This program is sponsored by the American Legion whose members dedicate their time, money, and energy to make the program a success.
In addition to his selection to attend Boys State, Ephan is also a student-athlete who participates in Cross Country and Baseball at his school. Ephan has been named All-County and All-Section in Cross Country and he has been both an individual and team qualifier for the State Cross State Meet in Oakville, Alabama. He is also Plainview High Schools' boy’s record holder for the cross-country 5K. Ephanis a member of the Good Samaritan Blub, works part-time at Chick-Fil-A and is active in the Rainsville First Baptist youth program.
This year’s Bos State will be held at Troy University from May 28-June 3, 2023.
