Story By Heath Hambrick

Tuesday, the citizens of Fort Payne gave Mayor Brian Baine four more years. Baine defeated challenger Pete Davis 1600 (votes) to 985.

The first box of results came in around 7:45 Tuesday night with the Five points results (Baine-158, Davis-87), followed by the VFW Hall (Baine-306, Davis-145), Senior center (Baine-241, Davis-112), absentee (Baine-72, Davis-39), Fire Hall number three(Baine-179, Davis-144), Fischer (Baine-189, Davis- 109) and then the final box from Wills Valley Rec-Center (Baine-455, Davis-349). As the results came in, it became clear early that Baine’s re-election was certain.

As the final results were read out to the crowd at the City Auditorium, supporters for each candidate cheered with excitement at knowing their candidate had one.

During Baine’s first term, the City of Fort Payne has seen new business come to the City along with improvements to the downtown area.

Baine addressed the crowd after all the results had been announced. “I want to say thank you to all my supporters who pushed me over the edge in this election.  I’m looking forward to another four years; we are going to make (Fort Payne) great. I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout this campaign. I also want to say thank you to Pete Davis for joining this race. Thank you to everyone who is here tonight in support, and now let’s go make Fort Payne great.”

Baine’s second term as mayor will officially begin in November, along with the new city council.
