Story By Heath Hambrick
In Alabama, it's never too early to talk about the upcoming football season. We are in the second week of June and football is on my mind as the Sports Editor of the Times-Journal.
Even with summer play dates for basketball and soccer taking place this month, football will be a focus as I prepare for the upcoming season which starts on August 14 with Fall Jamborees. That is just over 65 days away.
During the next 65 days, there will be 7-on-7 competitions, workouts, media days, picture days for each school, and the start of fall camp. , I will be gathering all the information for the football preview magazine that the Times-Journal publishes before each season.
My goal for this year's magazine is that it will be the best publication providing information about each team.
This year not only will I be covering football Fridays as the Sports Editor for the Times-Journal, but I will also host the Friday Night Football Blitz for the second straight season on 98-3 Wild Country and 101-7 The Torch alongside Eli Sampson this season.
Oh, and that's not all, I will also moonlight as a color commentator with Justin Thrasher for three football games on 101-7 The Torch. Starting on Thursday, August 21 when the Geraldine Bulldogs host the Sardis Lions. Then the following week with the big showdown when the Fyffe Red Devils host the Pisgah Eagles. During October, 101-7 The Torch will also broadcast the Plainview Bears and the Madison Academy Mustangs.
I look forward to working with Justin and Eli on the radio this fall, I think that our coverage of sports will be the best on the airwaves in this part of the state.
Sports writing and broadcasting games on the radio is a great job and for those who know me, you know that I have a passion for sports, I put 110 percent into anything I do when it comes to sports.
I hope everyone is as excited as I am for the start of football season. No matter what your role is on game night whether it be a player, coach, photographer, broadcaster, or sports writer, there is nothing like being under the Friday Night Lights.
