ASWA ALL-STATE SOFTBALL: Jackson County softball players named all-state

Story By Jason Bowen

The 2025 AHSAA softball season in Jackson County produced two state-tournament qualifying teams, including a state runner-up, and two more teams that were just a few of regional tournament wins shy of advancing to state as well.

A number of the players that contributed to that success have received statewide recognition for their efforts.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its 2025 ASWA All-State Softball Teams today, and 10 players from Jackson County teams were selected all-state first-team, second-team or honorable mention in their respective classifications.

Among those recognized was Pisgah senior and UAB signee Madeline Flammia, who was named the Class 2A Hitter of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Flammia was also a Class 2A first-team all-state selection as a utility player after playing shortstop and pitcher for the Class 2A state runner-up Eagles. It was the third consecutive season in which Flammia was a first-team all-state selection and her fifth all-state selection overall. She had a .486 batting average (51-for-105), a .600 on-base percentage and a 1.714 OPS over 40 games for Pisgah this past spring while totaling 14 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs, 44 RBIs, 29 walks, 18 stolen bases and 51 runs scored.

Pisgah had four more players receive all-state recognition. Junior infielder Campbell Barron was a second-team all-state selection for the third consecutive season. The 2024-25 Class 2A Girls Basketball Player of the Year finished the softball season with a .430 batting average (37-for-86), a .473 on-base percentage and a 1.066 OPS in 28 games for the Eagles, recording 12 doubles, one triple, 26 RBIs, seven walks, eight stolen bases and 31 runs scored.

Three Eagles, senior Brinley Chisenall, junior Briley Caperton and seventh-grade pitcher Lori Jones, were honorable mention all-state. Chisenall batted .381 (45-for-118) and had a .422 on-base percentage along with seven doubles, two home runs, 33 RBIs, and 16 runs scored while Caperton batted .336 (43-for-128) and had a .370 on-base percentage with 11 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 43 RBIs, eight walks, 17 stolen bases and 37 runs scored. Jones finished 10-1 with 67 strikeouts and a 3.21 ERA in 113 1/3 innings pitched.

Also in Class 2A, North Sand Mountain freshman Kaleigh Roberts was a first-team all-state selection. Roberts, who primarily played shortstop for the Bison, posted a .466 batting average (55-for-118), a .522 on-base percentage and a 1.607 OPS while recording 12 doubles, 20 triples, seven home runs, 32 RBIs, 11 walks, 10 stolen bases and 55 runs scored.

Meanwhile, Scottsboro senior Austin McNeece and junior Shila Wadkins were Class 5A second-team all-state selections as an infielder and designated hitter for the second consecutive season after helping the Wildcats reach the state tournament. McNeece, an NACC signee, had a .544 batting average (74-for-136), a .595 on-base percentage and a 1.544 OPS with 21 doubles, eight triples, six home runs, 47 RBIs, 19 walks, 19 stolen bases and 54 runs scored. Skyline had a pair of freshman, infielder Eva Gates and outfielder Hadley Epps, earn Class 1A second-team all-state honors. It was the second all-state selection for Gates, who had a .439 batting average (50-for-114), a .543 on-base percentage and a 1.350 OPS while totaling 12 doubles, six triples, six home runs, 37 RBIs, 25 walks, seven stolen bases and 47 runs scored.
