Marked for Life Ministries works in all kinds of weather to meet the needs of those facing homelessness, addiction, and food insecurity, and is working now in collaboration with the City of Fort Payne and DeKalb County Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency to provide an Emergency Warming Station for the community, as extremely cold temperatures approach.

Starting Sunday afternoon, Jan. 14, the emergency warming station will be open, providing warmth and sustenance to anyone in need.

Logan LeGrande, the Executive Director of Marked For Life Ministries, expressed a commitment to supporting our neighbors during this crucial time.

“We want people to know that we're here for them,” Le Grande said. “No one should endure the cold alone, especially during dangerous temperatures.”

The forecast for early next week predicts much lower than normal temperatures – with highs in the 30s and 20s early next week with lows in the teens or single digits. Tuesday night is expected to be bitterly cold, with the long-range forecast predicting a possible low of 7 degrees. Temperatures are not expected to rise higher that the 40s for the rest of next week, while lows will in in the 20s or teens.

DCHSEMA Deputy Director Michael Posey said the agency was working Friday to get a list of available warming centers posted on the agency's Facebook page.

“If you or someone you know requires shelter or assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our crisis line at 888.789.4673,” LeGrande said.

For the location information of the warming station, the ministry requests that people call ahead to ensure they receive the most up-to-date details.

“We also appeal to our community members to consider volunteering at the warming station, as your support is vital to its operation,” he said.

Together, we can provide hope and assistance during this time of need.”
