Commission Discusses Road Projects

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The DeKalb County Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting on September 10, 2019.

County Engineer Ben Luther stated that after opening the bids for Project No. ST-025-888-020 for County Road 651, Wiregrass had the lowest bid at 1.1 million.  This will be paid for out of State Road and Bridge funds.  Luther presented a damage claim that occurred on County Road 639 that resulted in a busted transmission pan. The claim  was forwarded on to the County insurance carrier.  Luther presented the commission with a speed resolution for County Road 605.  CR 605 loops back into CR 119.  The commission approved for the speed limit to be dropped to 20 mph.

Dekalb County Revenue Commissioner  Tyler Wilks brought before the commission a request to hire April Evans to replace Tiffany Graben who resigned last month. 

Matt Sharp, DeKalb County  Administrator gave a 2020 budget update  which includes a 2% cost-of-living raise for County employees.  The 2020 Budget will be voted on at the next DeKalb County Commission meeting. 

Cynthia Hancock, Director of the DeKalb County Public Library, addressed the Commission regarding their upcoming Tea Party that will be held on September 14, 2019 from 2-4 p.m.  The theme of the tea will be in the spirit of Downton Abbey.  1920’s attire dress is encouraged but not required.  Tickets are available at the door,  the day of the event. 

The next meeting of the DeKalb County Commission will be held September 24, 2019.
