Bruce: first mayor of Kilpatrick

Bruce: first mayor of Kilpatrick

Story By Mary Bailey

On Tuesday evening the town of Kilpatrick made history.

Community members and supporting neighbors gathered at town hall where it was standing room only for the swearing in of the town’s first mayor, town council members and its first town meeting.

The packed town hall watched as Richard Bruce was sworn in as Kilpatrick’s first mayor and

Rachel Coody Bloodworth, Fer Guzman, Tina Malone and Kim L. Hunt were sworn in as Kilpatrick’s first town council members.

Richard Bruce, whose family has been in the Kilpatrick area for over 150 years

“As a lifelong citizen of Kilpatrick, it is a little overwhelming to be honest with you. It was very surreal Tuesday night, but we are super proud of our community and our little town. We had a standing room only attendance Tuesday night with people outside, you couldn’t even get in. We were overwhelmed with the outpour of our town coming to show support,” Mayor Bruce said.

“Obviously, we are still very fresh after being incorporated. Tuesday night was just an organizational council meeting. I was out talking to people in the town Tuesday night, and it was encouraging. Come by and tell us what you want, what you need and what we can do. It’s going to be baby steps, but we are trying to do all that we can to make Kilpatrick cleaner and safer and just better all the way around. It just takes time.”

Kilpatrick city council meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Kilpatrick Town Hall located at 27 County Road 179, Albertville, 35951.

The month of November meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12 due to the Veteran’s Day holiday.
