Boaz Officer recognized for saving life

Story By Mary Bailey

During the last Boaz City Council meeting Boaz Chief of Police Mike Turner made a special presentation to one of his officers for saving a citizen’s life.

“The Boaz Police Department commends the life-saving acts of K-9 officer Thomas Allcorn that took place on August 1, 2025,” spoke Chief Turner. “K-9 Officer Allcorn responded with the Boaz Fire Medics on a call in reference to an adult male choking. Officer Allcorn was in the area and arrived on the scene in less than a minute from the time the call was dispatched out. Officer Allcorn found the man actively choking and turning blue. He performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to clear the man’s airway. The medics arrived on the scene a few minutes later and stated that Officer Allcorn’s actions most likely saved the man’s life. The Boaz Police Department and the City of Boaz are proud to have K-9 Officer Allcorn serving and protecting our city.”

Chief Turner thanked his officers who came to the meeting to watch their fellow officer be recognized.

Also, during the meeting, Boaz Library Director Lynn Burgess gave a brief update on the seed library and its success in the community.

“I wanted to tell you about the results from our seed library. One of the grants that we received gave out free seed packets to anyone that was interested. We started that in March and gave seed packets for fruit, vegetables and flowers and to date we have given out 736 seed packets for families to grow their own vegetables at home. We will open that again next spring. It was very successful, and people loved it.”
