Albertville gets long awaited fire truck

Story By Mary Bailey

Albertville Fire and Rescue welcomed a new member this week.

The newest addition to their fleet, a custom-built SL 75 Sutphen Quint from Ohio that will enhance response capabilities and fleet efficiency.

The “quint” truck is short for quintuple which is a fire apparatus that provides five critical functions: pump, water tank, hose, aerial device and ground ladders.

“Today feels like Christmas in July at the Albertville Fire Department,” said Albertville Fire Chief Brent Ennis. “This versatile apparatus enhances our operational capabilities by combining the functions of two vehicles into one, serving both as an aerial truck and an engine.”

Chief Ennis said this would not be possible if not for the mayor and city council.

“First and foremost, the credit and thanks goes to the mayor and city council because without them this would not have happened,” he continued. “This investment will enable us to provide safer, more efficient, and more effective service to our community. Working with Williams Fire Apparatus, Inc. and Anthony White has been a rewarding experience; their quality and craftsmanship are truly unparalleled.”

Chief Ennis said his department will be able to use this in several different ways.

“Us being a smaller department we don’t have the staffing all the time for a ladder truck, this way we can put that truck on the scene first. It will be a ladder plus and engine. It means a lot for us,” he said of the new addition. “This investment supports safer, smarter, and more effective service for our community. We’re excited for what the future holds with this powerful addition to the department!”
