Representative Patricia Todd (D) has pre-filed 4 bills in the legislature:
HB38: Increases the number of members on the Commission to Reduce Poverty from 22 to 27. – How does increasing the size of a commission make it more effective? This is big government, plain and simple.
HB39: Raises the cigarette tax. – Raising taxes. Big government, plain and simple.
HB40: Repeal the Same Sex Marriage Amendment. – If passed, this would require a statewide vote of the people. Not only does it have zero chance of passing the legislature, but it has zero chance of passing the popular vote, any poll would tell you that. This is a complete waste of time and is nothing but grandstanding, Representative Todd knows that the media will jump on this.
HB41: Exempts “Three Hots and a Cot” from all state, county, and municipal taxes. – Any tax exemption that applies to ONLY one individual or company is inappropriate. This company helps veterans out, which is a noble cause. However, if you want to help veterans out through state legislature, there are many ways to do that that do not involve giving out favors to individual companies. Making it local and specific shows that the goal probably has more to do with Todd’s re-election than actually helping veterans.
What do you think about these bills? Do you agree with my analysis?
