Scottsboro Garden Club decorates Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center for Christmas

Katie Hightower

On Dec. 4, members of the Scottsboro Garden Club gathered together for its annual Christmas at the Heritage Center. Each year, the group meets at the Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center to decorate it for Christmas.

Garland, glitter and foliage covered the floors of the Heritage Center as the 17 ladies busily readied the building for the holidays. As they decorated, they laughed, shared stories and caught up with each other. It wasn’t work for them. It was a time of fellowship and fun.

Outside, ladies were seen hanging wreaths and boughs with bows which made for a welcoming sight to all visitors of the center. Inside, tables were festooned with greenery, centerpieces and Christmas imagery. There were snowmen, reindeer, a nativity and Santa Claus decorations. Several of the floral centerpieces featured live foliage. Boughs of cedar, pine and holly filled a clear vase, arranged in a way only a master florist would manage to accomplish. The live cedar garland that draped down the staircase complemented the historic establishment’s architecture.

Tthe Scottsboro Garden Club is a unique club in that the members are very caring and nurturing and we have several members who are creative in directing our projects. We not only decorate the Heritage Center, we decorate McDonald’s too. We have three members battling cancer and we made care bags for them and check on them regularly,” said Janet Sage from the Scottsboro Garden Club.

It was such a large group, they had the Heritage Center decorated very quickly. When they were finished, the results looked magnificent. As gorgeous as the decorations were, nothing was more beautiful than the warm hearts and smiles of the ladies that morning.
