The Albertville Aggies girls’ basketball team is off to a hot start in head coach Natasha Smallwood’s first season. The Aggies have started off the season on a five-game winning streak with victories over Decatur, Lee, Pell City, Florence and Etowah.
The Aggies put a beatdown on Lee to a score of 48-29. The Aggies were led by junior Lani Smallwood, who scored 25 points with 13 rebounds and five steals. Sophomore Mylie Butler contributed eight points, seven rebounds and six steals.
Smallwood led the Aggies in a decisive 68-44 win over Pell City, in which she scored 28 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Smallwood also shot 6-of-11 from the 3-point line. Butler finished with 10 points with seven assists.
In the 65-31 win over Florence, it was Butler who led the team in victory, as she scored 25 points off of 10-of-13 shooting. Sophomore Gracyn Robeson contributed 12 points, two rebounds and three assists. Smallwood finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Aggies’ latest win came in a 74-18 whipping of Etowah, as Smallwood produced a triple-double. Smallwood collected 28 points with 11 rebounds and 10 steals.
Butler also finished with a 20-point game with seven steals. Robeson contributed eight points. Junior Mylie Kate West had seven points with five rebounds.
The Aggies look to keep the winning streak alive, as they host Fort Payne on Thursday, Nov. 21, at Albertville Gymnasium.
