No. 4 Fyffe trounces Rams on homecoming

FYFFE — Class 3A, No. 4 Fyffe celebrated its 2024 homecoming by pounding Asbury 63-0 on Friday night at Paul Benefield Stadium-Long/Ridgeway Field.

The Red Devils improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Class 3A, Region 8 standings. The Rams slipped to 0-4, 0-2.

Fyffe built a 28-0 advantage after the first quarter.

Ryder Gipson scored on a 7-yard run with 11:07 remaining. Blake Dobbins ran 5 yards for a TD at the 7:28 mark.

The Red Devils’ special teams provided their final two TDs of the quarter, as Maddox Doss returned punts 51 and 41 yards to the end zone. Jesse Martin converted 4-of-4 extra points in the period.

Fyffe’s margin ballooned to 49-0 at the half.

Gipson raced 50 yards to the end zone with 10:55 remaining in the second quarter. Sawyer Watkins scored on a 17-yard carry, and Logan Ashley ripped off a 76-yard TD run.

In the third quarter, Noah Patterson ran 25 yards for a TD with six minutes to go. Fyffe’s final touchdown came on Chase Hutcherson’s 4-yard carry with 2:30 left in the fourth period.

Lucas Phillips converted the last five extra points for the Red Devils.

Fyffe rolled up 317 yards total offense, with 291 coming on the ground. Gipson paced the Red Devils with 80 yards on three carries.

Fyffe’s defense limited the Rams to 39 yards total offense. The Red Devils have shut out Asbury in five of the seven meetings in series history.
