On Monday, the Scottsboro City Council held a council meeting at Scottsboro City Hall. There were nine items on the agenda, with eight of them being voted on and ultimately approved.
First, the city council recognized the Scottsboro High School Beta Club students for their performance at the Beta Cub National Convention, where many students among many groups placed highly. Scottsboro High School placed first in Robotics, second in the Presidential Campaign Skit, third in Onsite Painting and 10th grade Social Studies, fifth in 11th grade Spanish, sixth in the Solo, Duo, Trio Singing and 10th in the Large Group Performing Arts.
Next, the city council approved to elect Nita Tolliver without opposition for City Council Place 2.
Next, the city council approved a bid for the resurfacing of the Lakeview Shores Subdivision in the amount of $1,262,308 with 5 % contingency which will be paid out of various accounts for paving purposes.
Next, the city council approved to move forward with a Public Hearing for the amendment for the zoning ordinance for residential districts. However, there were a couple of changes to the amendment since discussed the week before.
“Basically, everything will stay the same as it is now except we will add R-6. The R-6 will have the 60-foot wide lots for the high-density residential,” City Council President Richard Bailey said.
Next, the city council approved to update the Fire Department’s Administrative Assistant Job Description.
Next, the city council approved several election related items, including an agreement with the Jackson County Commission for the use of Electionic Pollbooks, rate of pay for election officials, the use of an electronic vote counting system and the appointment of election officials.
The city council then approved a $4,000 budget amendment for the Goose Pond Fireworks, which will be paid out of excess sales tax. It was mentioned that this item is typically budgeted however was not for this year.
Next, the city council approved a bid for an HVAC for City Hall, costing $9,390 to be paid from excess sales tax.
Next, the city council approved a $105,809 Skid Steer bid for the Street Department. The funds will come out of excess sales tax.
Lastly, the city council approved the appointments of Jon Lee as the permanent Fire Chief and Monica Roden as the permanent Finance Director.
The city council will have a work session on Monday at 5 p.m. at Scottsboro City Hall.
