On Saturday, local officials and picklers gathered at the Pickleball Complex to celebrate the official ribbon cutting and naming ceremony of the Pickleball courts. The courts themselves opened back in August however the project was not complete. The pavilion was still needed before it could be called a finished project. Now, all that’s left is to cut a ribbon and take down a curtain to reveal the name of the court.

The curtain comes down first, being named the Jim Olyniec Scottsboro Pickleball Complex, named after the man behind the project.

“I love the City of Scottsboro. I love building things. What keeps me going is the love, working with and camaraderie shared with the many, many good folks that truly make Scottsboro and Jackson County someplace special,” Olyniec said. “(Today) is extra special. We have a really nice facility; it’s all completed for the citizens of Scottsboro. Like any project that ends up successful, it’s a joy to be associated with this.”

For the city, Mayor Jim McCamy believes the Pickleball complex to be a great addition to the recreation complex at Bynum and thanks the city council for their approval for this project and Olyniec for his work on completing the project.

“This is as nice as a Pickleball complex as anybody’s. This one is bringing people from all over north Alabama and we have room to grow. We’re incredibly excited about the opportunities that will come with this,” McCamy said.

McCamy also said that there is already discussions for tournaments at the complex and notes that the complex has room to grow and that he is “looking forward to the growth that we can add to this.”
