Russell Moore and III rd (Third) Tyme Out will bring their special brand of bluegrass music to the DeKalb Theater in Fort Payne this Saturday.
Eric McKinney of McKinney Bluegrass has been long time friends with members of the group. He said he kept running into the group’s members in blue grass circles, and they started to hang out together and “jam.”
Out of that friendship came the annual show in Fort Payne.
III Tyme Out will appear with Bent Creek. Tickets are $20 in advance, $23 at the door. Tickets are available at The Bar B Q Place, Bruce’s Foodland in Fort Payne and Rainsville, Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce, Patterson’s Music, and Sally’s Smokin’ Butt BBQ.
“We do it every year, and it’s always big fun,” the group posted on its Facebook page.
McKinney said IIIrd Tyme Out’s music is distinctive, something in between traditional bluegrass and contemporary bluegrass. It’s a style that’s not going to put off those who love traditional bluegrass, he said, but it’s on the cutting edge.
Moore, he said, “could sing anything,” but he chooses to sing bluegrass.
He’s been doing just that with IIIrd Tyme Out for more than 25 years, according to the group's website.
Since May 1991, the group has climbed to the top of the charts twice and won a number of IBMA vocal awards. That includes six Male Vocalist of the year awards for Moore and seven Vocal Group of the Year Awards.
Recent offerings from the group include Timeless Hits From the Past …Bluegrassed, released by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, and their latest, the self-produced It’s About Time.
