Tigers Dominate the Conquerors

GADSDEN, Ala. — The Valley Head Tigers defeated the Coosa Christian Conquerors, 70-38 on Friday night.

Jordan Burt returned the opening kickoff for the touchdown. The extra point attempt gave the Tigers the early 7-0 lead. On the Tiger’s next possession, it took them only two plays for Burt to score, from two yards out, going up 14-0.  After a fumble recovery for Valley Head by Jamie Brown, Burt brought in his third touchdown of the night from 47 yards out. The extra point attempt by Noah Hulgan gave the Tigers the 21-0 advantage with 7:40 remaining in the first quarter. After an interception by Hunter Robinson, Bryson Morgan brought it in to give the Tigers the 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

On the first play of the second quarter, Morgan got a pick 6. The kick was good, putting the Tigers in the driving seat with a score of 35-0. Morgan found the end zone from 60 yards out. A botched snap on the extra point led to a 2-point conversion, putting the Tigers up 43-0. With 5:36 remaining in the first half, Coosa took the kickoff back for a touchdown.  The point-after attempt was no good, making the score 43-6. Morgan found the endzone once again for the Tigers. As the first half ended, Coosa scored and unsuccessfully went for two. The Valley Head Tigers went into intermission with a 50-12 advantage over the Conquerors.

To start the second half, the Conquerors scored to go up 50-18. Valley Head answered back with a touchdown. The point-after attempt was wide left, making the score 56-18. Coosa scored, making the score 56-24. Valley Head returned the kickoff again for a touchdown. The kick by Noah Hulgan gave the Tigers the 63-24 lead with 5:34 remaining in the third. During the fourth quarter, touchdowns were being thrown out like Christmas candy. Coosa Christian added two more touchdowns. Valley Head scored their final touchdown of the night with 6:20 remaining in the game, making the final 70-38 and sealing Valley Head’s first place spot in the division.  

Valley Head improved to 7-1 and 5-0 in Class 1A, Region 7 play. Earlier this week, the Valley Head Tigers also moved up to number eight in the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Top 10 polls. 

Bryson Morgan led the Valley Head Tigers with 198 yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns.  

Jordan Burt had 138 yards on six carries. Noah Hulgan made 8-of-9 field goal attempts for the night. 

The Valley Head Tigers will travel to take on Sumiton Christian on Friday.
