FORT PAYNE, Ala. — In a statement released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency: A single vehicle crash at 4:12 a.m. today, Feb. 20, has claimed the life of a Cherokee County man.

Christopher Lee O’Neal, 45, of Centre was killed when the 1985 Chevrolet S-10 he was driving struck a tree lying in the roadway on U.S. 11. O’Neal, who was not using a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred on U.S. 11 at the 223 mile marker just under a mile south of Ft. Payne. Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the crash, and nothing further is available.
