RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Rainsville City Council met on Monday, November 5 for their regularly scheduled meeting.
After Councilmember Marshall Stiefel requested an update on the 2016-17 outside audit, Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt gave a report on the audit process and that it should be finished by December. Lingerfelt also discussed the need for a one-time pay raise for full-time City employees. The Council approved.
The Council hired Hunter Wise as a part-time shop worker at $10.66 per hour.
Councilmember Ricky Byrum made a motion to change the stop sign on Fortner Road and Old Highway 35 to a yield sign during the construction of the Chavies Bridge. This motion was approved.
Upon the request of Councilmember Derek Rosson, the Council approved the renewal of a VHF frequency license in the amount of $3,000 to be paid equally between the Police and Fire departments.
Rosson also requested a four channel recorder upgrade (small logging recorder) that records anything that comes over the phone lines for police department dispatch in the amount of $5,384.62. He also requested the purchase of Frontline Public Safety software for $750 per year to be used by the Police and Fire departments. This money was raised by the Policemen’s Ball. Rainsville would be the first in the State of Alabama to have this program, which features vacation watch, at-risk citizens and business checkups.
Councilmember Stiefel expressed concern over the privacy of citizens and the fear of the City being sued, a feeling that was shared by City Attorney Nikki Scott. Police Chief Kevin Smith said that a disclaimer would be signed before participation in the program would be allowed. Both motions were approved.
The Council announced that the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce would have their Holiday Open House this weekend (November 9-10). They also announced that the Veterans Day program will be held on Sunday, November 11 at 3:30pm at the Rainsville City Park.
The Council approved the following reappointments to various boards:
- Mental Health Services Board: Jonathan Phillips, Whitney Whiteside, Gelaine Nelson
- Beautification Board: Lisa Chandler, Pat Flaherty, Kelly Lawrence, Brooke Debtor
- Library Board: Bill Ayers, Teresa Hill
- Tom Bevill Enrichment Center Board: Cindy Black, Whitney Whiteside, Joe Flaherty, Kelly Frazier
- Sewer Board: Darrell Samples, Joey Graham, Fred Bobo, Tim Barksdale
All board reappointments are one-year terms.
The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be held on Monday, November 19 at 5pm with a workshop beginning at 4:15pm.
