FORT PAYNE, Ala. — According to the Fort Payne Police Department: William Shannon Crane, age 43 of Fort Payne, was arrested on May 7, 2018 at 11:08pm for Public Intoxication and Criminal Trespass 3rd degree charges.

Mr. Crane was transported to the Fort Payne Police Department where he was processed without incident and placed in a holding cell. At approximately 5:20am on this date Fort Payne Police Corrections personnel was handing out breakfast meals and found Mr. Crane unresponsive in his cell. Fort Payne Fire & Rescue responded to the jail and were unable to revive Mr. Crane.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is in charge of the investigation.
