DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office: On April 24, the DeKalb County Drug Task Force agents conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of County Road 155 and County Road 814 in the Higdon community. Agents conducted a search of the vehicle and found a quarter ounce of methamphetamine, digital scales and marijuana hidden in a magnetized compartment. As a result, Regina Darlene Cuzzort, 53 of Trenton, Ga., was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd. Also arrested was Brittney Leighsha McCloud, 31 of Trenton, Ga., and was charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. As McCloud was being placed in the patrol vehicle, it was discovered that she was holding methamphetamine in her hand. Both Cuzzort and McCloud was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

Chief Deputy Edmondson says, "The Drug Task Force Agents did a great job on being observant in this case. Being able to rid drugs from out County is one of our priorities among keeping our citizens safe."

Also on April 24, the DeKalb County Detention Centers Chief Jail Administrator Jonathan Langley was appointed to a volunteer position on the Cherokee-Etowah-DeKalb Mental Health Board.

"Mental illness is a medical condition that disrupts a person's thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning often resulting in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life." CED Mental Health provides many different services, but their goal is to "provide an opportunity for individuals to realize their fullest potential while being served in the least restrictive environment." CED Mental Health's qualified staff members comes to the DeKalb County Detention Center to evaluate and determine the most appropriate treatment for inmates that may have a mental illness.

Langley's title on the CED Mental Health Board is Officer, but he is also a nurse along with being the Chief Jail Administrator and a Certified Law Enforcement Officer. Being the Chief Jail Administrator, Langley deals with these types of people on a daily basis. By being on the board, Langley will be an asset to CED Mental Health. Langley will also be able to help them assess any situation that may arise. Director Shelia Hurley said that she appreciates the County Commission appointing Langley to the board, and that he is going to be a big asset in helping them with their with all of his cardinals.

Sheriff Harris says, "Langley has been with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and Detention Center for many years. Langley has been a great asset to our office with his many different abilities from being a nurse, a law enforcement officer, Chief Jail Administrator, teaching correctional law, understanding human behavior and inmate access to courts and mail for the National Institute for jail operations and the Alabama County Commission Association and now a board member for CED Mental Health."
