FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The annual Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament will be held on September 15th at the DeSoto Golf Course. This event is part of Fort Payne’s Boom Days Heritage Celebration.
Golfers from various companies will experience a day of fun, fellowship, and a “serious” round of golf. I always enjoy the laughter and jokes about the skills of their fellow golfers.
The tournament is a 4-Man scramble with shotgun starts at 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Cash prizes will be awarded to the overall winning and last place teams. Second and third place will be awarded by the drawing from all teams.
Registration fees include green fees, cart fees, as well a lunch. The tournament gift bags consist of a quality golf shirt and other golf items.
The tournament is an excellent way to network with others who are employed in local businesses.
The Mayor’s Cup recognizes Mary Larry Chesser for his support of the Chamber. It is an honor to partner with the City of Fort Payne.
The funds generated by the tournament will be used for Chamber programs that support the business community as well as the creation of the loft apartments above the Chamber.
The next step in the renovation is the installation of the sprinkler system for not only the apartments but also the downstairs of the Chamber building.
There have been regulations that must be met to create the apartments for the safety of the tenants as well as the protection of the office complex.
With the help of the Fire Chief Don Fischer, his staff, and Stan Blevins with the inspection department for the City, the Chamber now has architectural plans that will meet all present codes.
Greg Peavy, PV Design Inc., has been instrumental in creating the plans. Due to his family ties to Fort Payne, he has volunteered many hours to the success of the City’s revitalization of the downtown area.
Through teamwork, the loft apartments will be available after the first of the year.
