Bulldogs battle the Lions

The Geraldine Bulldogs played Crossville Lions Friday night for what has been called the “Battle of Skirum Creek.” It is both team’s longest running rivalry.  They have played each other ninety-four times.  Crossville has won the battle 55 times. Geraldine has won 36 times.  There has been three tie games.

The Bulldogs scored first with a touchdown by Steven Hood.  The Lions answered back with a 7-yard dash into the endzone by Blanton Jones.  With only seconds left in the first quarter, Austin Willoughby scored for the Bulldogs.

In the third, Crossville had a good drive but fumbled and Geraldine cashed in.  After a 87-yard drive, Bryan Jimenez, brought it into the endzone for the Geraldine Bulldogs.

To start the fourth quarter off, Banks Jolley scored on a 24-yard run for the Crossville Lions but they never could catch up to the Bulldogs.  Geraldine wins 38-17.

It has been a tough season for the Crossville Lions.  They finished this season with a 1 and 9 record.  The Geraldine Bulldogs will start the State Playoffs against Winfield.

The Southern Torch Standouts for the game were Geraldine’s  Austin Willoughby, Steven Hood and Bryan Jimenez.  Willoughby had 13 carries for 137 yards and one touchdown.  Steven Hood had 13 carries for 114 yards and two touchdowns.  Bryan Jimenez had fourteen carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
