This week we got to see if all the twitter smack could actually be backed up as DeKalb teams faced off against each other all over the county.
A few games got out of hand, a few streaks stayed alive, and a surprise team continued to rack up wins and pound on people...
Each week we grade every team in DeKalb County based on a number of factors.
Rankings are based on:
- Overall Record
- Region Record
- Head-to-Head Match-ups
- Strength of Schedule
- Margin of Victory
- Coaching
- Talent
The Southern Torch Week 7 POWER RANKINGS
8. Crossville Lions (0-7)
The Lions march towards unwanted perfection continued on Friday night as they fell to Cherokee County, 13-20. Another close home game for Crossville ended in heartbreak...and on homecoming. This week is realistically their last chance to finish the season without a goose in the W column.
Points Per Game: 11
Average Margin of Victory: -25
Next: at White Plains (1-6)
7. Valley Head Tigers (3-3)
Why?
Points Per Game: 21
Average Margin of Victory: -4
Next: at Jacksonville Christian (3-4)
6. Collinsville Panthers (3-4)
The slide continues...like Clark Griswold on a snow sled. After opening 3-0, the Panthers have now dropped 4 straight. Jordan Leath's 6 catches for 99 yards wasn't enough as Jalyn Martin was bottled up for 55 yards against a rowdy Hornets defense.
Points Per Game: 23
Average Margin of Victory: -3
Next: vs Gaston (4-3)
5. Sylvania Rams (3-4)
The Rams took it to the Bears and led this one early in the same fashion that they took it to Fyffe in the opening period. The other 3 quarters resembled the Fyffe game as well. The Rams pass the airport test as well as any team in the county. They're big, fast and athletic. However, they look more like a M.A.S.H. Unit than a football team right now. There are no gimmes left on the schedule.
Points Per Game: 22
Average Margin of Victory: -3
Next: at Geraldine (6-1)
4. Ider Hornets (5-2)
The Hornets physically punished Collinsville on Friday night...shocker. This bruising team could actually take the #2 spot in the region if they can go on the road and get a HUGE win at Cleveland this week. Ground and pound.
Points Per Game: 29
Average Margin of Victory: +8
Next: at Cleveland (7-1)
3. Geraldine Bulldogs (6-1)
The Bulldogs continue to chew teams up in the post-Marcus Davis era as they roll in to the Rock and leave with a comfortable 25-7 victory. It all comes down to Week 9 for this good, physical squad.
Points Per Game: 26
Average Margin of Victory: +12
Next: vs Sylvania (3-4)
2. Plainview Bears (6-1)
Another game, another rout. Plainview pounded on the rival Rams 45-14. Jayse Pruitt's 2 TD passes to Chase Willingham set the tone and then the rest of the cast took it from there. If the Bears missed OL Josh Gravitt, they didn't show it. And full disclosure, I have a man crush on Payne Anderson.
Points Per Game: 37
Average Margin of Victory: +26
Next: vs Brindlee Mountain (1-6)
1. Fyffe Red Devils (7-0)
58-8...Coach Benefield did the humane thing and eventually had the JV on the field. When you look at how good of a season teams like Geraldine, Ider and Cleveland are having and then you see what Fyffe did to those teams...Jordan-Hare Stadium in early December seems like a pretty safe bet right now.
Points Per Game: 53
Average Margin of Victory: +43
Next: at West End (1-6)
