Governor Bentley held a press conference at 8:00 AM to discuss the recent outbreak of Ebola and cases reported in the US.
There is no reason to believe that anyone in Alabama is infected or that anyone in Alabama is at risk at this time, but if it does happen we will be prepared.
What we're trying to be in Alabama is proactive. We have very good teams in this state, our center for domestic preparedness in Anniston is a FEMA facility, but I do believe that we do as well, if not better, than anywhere in the country.

Ebola is spread through direct contact with blood or other bodily fluids of a person infected with the diseases, or objects such as syringes that have been contaminated with Ebola. The disease is not spread through air or water, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Symptoms of Ebola show up 2 to 21 days after infection and usually include:
- High Fever
- Headache
- Joint and Muscle Aches
- Sore Throat
- Weakness
- Stomach Pain
- Lack of Appetite
There is nothing specific about those symptoms. There is nothing we can do about that first case. What we want to try to prevent are the cases that arise from the first case.
