As we come in to Week 2 of the season, we already have storylines developing. Here are some things to keep an eye on around the county tonight.
Valley Head (0-1) at Coosa Christian
The Tigers lost the turnover battle and the game in Week 1 at Ider. 3 fumbles did the boys in purple in despite 110 total yards and 2 TDs from "Stump" Gregory. If they can hold on to the football and keep the big fella' rolling they should bounce back this week entering region play.
Ider Hornets (1-0) at Gaylesville
The Hornets put a dreadful 2013 to rest with a win to open 2014...and did it only throwing 3 passes. The Hornets pounded out 272 yards on the ground against Valley Head and they'll look to carry that momentum to Gaylesville tonight.
Geraldine Bulldogs (0-1) vs New Hope
The Dogs are hopefully done licking their wounds after their opening loss to Fyffe that produced less than 150 yards of total offense. Forget that one. Look for Jake Maddox to right the ship and avenge last seasons loss as New Hope comes to a rowdy Geraldine stadium.
Plainview Bears (0-1) at North Sand Mountain
The Bears blew a 14 point lead in their home opener to Glencoe last week, even with Payne Anderson rushing for 83 yards and Will Kirk breaking out with 65 yards and a TD on 6 catches. Blue should fair much better with a less talented North Sand Mountain team as I look for QB Jayse Pruitt and WR Will Kirk to have their way with the Bisons small secondary.
Collinsville Panthers (1-0) vs West End
The Panthers wasted no time in getting started in 2014 as they put 20 points on the board in the first quarter. Jalyn Martin told us he would have 2k all-purpose yards this season...and with 282 yards and 4 TDs in his 2014 debut I'd say he's well on his way. We'll see if the jump to 2A has any effect on this explosive offense when they open region play tonight.
Crossville Lions (0-1) at Jacksonville
The Lions dropped a heartbreaker in OT to Douglas but did show signs of improvement. The test will be a little stiffer tonight in Jacksonville, but Brodi White and the young Lions backfield will look to grind it out and have a chance late.
Fyffe Red Devils (1-0) at Cleveland
The Red Devils look like they might be the most complete team in DeKalb County since the 99' Plainview squad. Tonight they'll face a hot Cleveland team that's new to the region and is coming off a 30-13 drubbing of the Pisgah Eagles in Week 1. Fyffe is too strong to give up the big plays that Cleveland was able to convert last week. Stiefel, Mashburn, Kilpatrick, Newsome, Ashley, Martin, Perez, Brown, Chambers, (yawn), etc...
Sylvania Rams (0-1) vs Pisgah
The only question on everyones minds right now is how bad is Dillon Cambron hurt? The senior QB tore his knee up last week but has been pretty reassuring on twitter that he's not done yet. This one will be a shootout no matter who is under center as both teams will look to the air early and often in the Sheriff Jimmy Harris Game of the Week.
