Story By Heath Hambrick
This year marks the 24th anniversary of the deadly attacks that occurred on September 11 in New York City and Washington DC.
That Tuesday morning, as many people were getting ready to go to their places of work, a group of terrorist hijacked four planes Two were headed for New York City’s World Trade Center and one to the Pentagon in Washington DC, The fourth plane was bound for the White House, but ended up in the field in Pennsylvania due to heroic acts from passengers on board
As 24 years have passed, we never forget the men and women who lost their lives in New York City, Washington DC, and that field in Pennsylvania. We also never forget the people who sacrificed their lives in the rescue efforts of others during that September day.
I was sitting in my seventh grade English class and remember a teacher running in and telling saying that the US had been attacked and to turn on the TV. As she turned on the TV the second tower of the World Trade Center was hit.
That day changed the lives of many in our country. I was made aware of events from around the world and made aware that America has many enemies.
We live in the greatest country in the world. We should not take that for granted.
September 11, 2001 is a date that Americans will never forget. Even to this day, don’t take things for granted, remember those who lost their lives and hold your loved ones near.
Wherever you are today, take a moment remember those who sacrificed so much in the twin towers, at Pentagon, in the field in Pennsylvania. Remember the firefighters, the policeman, and EMS workers along with our men and women serving around the world. They are all heroes.
