(Rainsville) Rainsville City Council members met to discuss a wide range of topics on Tuesday night. The agenda included finalizing plans for the renovations of the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center and a vote for the city to apply for a federal grant that could pay salary and benefits for up to six Rainsville firefighters.
Topics discussed but not voted upon included Rainsville’s participation in the Alabama Community of Excellence program, in which the town will undergo assessment of obstacles to the city’s growth before strategizing and implementing remedies to each.
Highlights of Tom Bevill Center Renovation:
- Whitaker Contracting won the lowest bid to pave the parking lot for $72,488
- Iven Harville was hired to paint the interior for $5,340
- City Council passed (4-2) a motion to purchase an LED scroll sign for an approximate cost of $15,000
“The Tom Bevill center is located at a prime spot in the city. For a small extra fee we can have people announce their events to the community (on the sign).
The Tom Bevill Center has not been pampered in a long time.Everything is outdated.”
- Melissa Ledbetter
